Primary Server Down

The primary server is down, due to an unexpected crash.

I've iscolated the source of the problem through an at-home test. It was partially my fault, and partially bad timing.

When an "out of map" NPC is spawned at the same time as an In-Map NPC is spawned, the server crashes. I spawned a rancor in the large arena area right as someone started pressing the training NPC buttons.

The server should, theoretically, reboot within 15 to 30 minutes. If it does not do so, it will be down for the remainder of the evening as I do not have contacts for EscapedTurkey Administrative Staff.

Isn't there a way to cut off the npc's in the spawning/training room?

Yes,

There is a command in the server.cfg file that allows or denys NPC spawning on maps (this should apply only to map based NPC spawnings, i.e. NPC buttons). However, I am not sure if that will also prevent Council level administrators from spawning NPC's. RCON cannot spawn NPC's as far as I know.

Novus,

The type of crash you caused is not an issue for EscapedTurkey. Should the server go down hard ET has an automated ticketing system which will alert the datacenter of any hardware/software/electrical/connectivity failure so that troubleshooting, repairs, and or replacements can be made. The crash you caused would and could only be fixed by waiting for and allowing the server to restart the JKA server config or by manually logging into the server and restarting the server config for JKA (which is what I would normally do).

Either way, it is not a crash that is of great concern. NPC spawning has long been plaguing JKA server owners and will continue to do so on custom maps such as that in situations like the one you've just experienced.

No harm, no foul, lesson learned. B)

yes. You and Novus together did it. Good job! It's no big deal, no damage done to the server, and now you know next time!

NPC buttons are a problem on every map that has them. But at the same time, Novus probably shouldnt have spawned a Rancor in the middle of the map.

Its the map rather than the rancor......i used one of the buttons twice in solo mode and crashed the game...... left most button i think.
